Start of Ball Mill installation

Start of Ball Mill installation.

Planned activities for the week of March 13th include ongoing earthworks within the Tailings Management Facility (TMF), steel erection, cladding, interior concrete, piping, electrical and equipment installation for various buildings within the Plant Site area and drilling, blasting and hauling of rock from the open pit for construction of roads and TMF.

What's coming next:

Greenstone Mine wishes to advise the public that open pit activities are underway. Greenstone Mine will be conducting scheduled blasts within the Open Pit. Blasting for the construction of water collections ponds will also take place in the vicinity of the Plant Site area for the next few months typically at 6:30 p.m. A link to Blasting Notices is located on the company website homepage.

A portion of the Barton Bay Trail has reopened for the winter months, however work around the highway realignment work has resumed. We will try to keep the trail open until winter is over, however trail users must obey the ‘No Trespassing’ signs that have been installed for everyone’s safety. We expect the trail will be closed the next week or two.

At the Process Plant east end, the building is now enclosed and interior work including installation of the ball mills is in progress. At the west end, internal steel and concrete are ongoing as electrical work continues with cable tray and piping. At the Crusher, equipment installation continues with minor cladding remaining. Interior steel and foundation work continue at the High Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR). The overhead crane is now commissioned. At the Power Plant, ongoing work includes construction of the control room and the engine exhaust ducting, as well as pulling of electrical cable. At the Truck Shop, architectural work on the offices along with work on piping, electrical, and lube and communications systems continues. Commissioning of the Pit Fuel Station and the Sewage Treatment Plant nears completion. Conveyor preassembly and installation including electrical cable tray installation are ongoing with transfer tower structure erection continuing. Demolition of the old MTO Patrol Yard is advancing.

At the TMF, earthworks on the dam walls with rock from operations is ongoing.

Mine mobile equipment components continue to arrive. Assembly of mine haul trucks five and six is complete as truck seven assembly continues. Assembly of the fourth dozer D375A continues. Work has commenced on the expansion of Pond B1 and will start on Pond B2.

The public are reminded to continue to obey all posted signs across the project area for everyone’s health and safety. Snowmobilers are warned to stay well outside of the project footprint for their own safety as many hazards may be covered by snow.

Construction in and around Greenstone Mine involves the use of heavy equipment such as haul trucks, zoom booms, cranes, drills, excavators, skidders, bulldozers, tri-axle haul trucks, articulated trucks and loaders. The extensive project work over the last year has significantly changed the landscape resulting in many new hazards. For health and safety reasons, do not enter any unauthorized or active work areas within the Project footprint unless authorized to do so.

The safety of our employees, contractors and the general public is paramount as we construct the Greenstone Mine.
