Temporary Construction Power Substation (TCPS): During the construction phase of the Greenstone Mine, the project will require power at different locations and Hydro One will supply temporary construction phase power for three years until the Permanent Power Plant is built. The preliminary installation phase is underway and the transformer has been mounted on a low-impact concrete footing to minimize the environmental impact during the dismantling phase in three years. The TCPS will convert the 44,000 volts to 13,800 volts for Greenstone Mine use during the construction phase. Further work such as backfilling for equipment stability and fencing around the TCPS will take place to secure the area. Once this is complete, a private powerline will be built to distribute power to each project area. A similar installation will take place at the Temporary Lodging Facility area.

Planned activities for the week of June 21st include Tree Clearing, continuing to advance the Early Earth Works, the construction of the East Service Road and Temporary Plant Site Access roads along with the installation of modules and steel structure.

What's coming next:

Forestry Operation Areas 1 and 2 Tree Clearing includes the clearing and removal of trees in preparation for project components such as the Highway 11 Relocation and the Process Plant Site. Area 1 activities will take place within the Mosher Pit and Mosher Shaft areas, while Area 2 activities are taking place South of Highway 11.

Early Earth Works are underway in preparation for project components such as the Temporary Lodging Facility, and the Temporary Effluent Water Treatment Plant. The Temporary Lodging Facility pad is located South of Old Arena Road, and the Temporary Effluent Water Treatment Plant is located South of Hardrock Road, include activities such as hauling and placement of material, with gravel extraction taking place from the Kenogamisis Pit located North of Highway 11 behind Between Bridges Inn. The erection of lodging facility modules within the Temporary Lodging Facility pad area will continue and this will cause additional tractor trailer traffic on Highway 584 and Old Arena Road leading to the Temporary Lodging Facility entrance. Other activities taking place at the Temporary Effluent Water Treatment Plant area include the erection of modules and steel structure. The East Access Road adjoining Highway 11 and Hardrock Road will continue road construction activities. The construction of the Temporary Plant Site Access Road adjoining Highway 11, past the Greenstone OPP Detachment and across from the Mosher Shaft will commence road construction activities. The Temporary Plant Site Access Road will facilitate access for the future construction of the Process Plant.

The Tree Clearing, Early Earth Works, Road Construction, the installation of modules and steel structure involve the use of heavy equipment such as: skidders, wood chippers, excavators, bulldozers, loaders, tri-axle haul trucks, tractor trailers, zoom booms and cranes. Please be advised of an increase in haul traffic on Highways 11 and 584, the Hardrock Road and Old Arena Road. For health and safety reasons, we wish to caution the general public to limit non-essential traffic within Hardrock Road and the Temporary Effluent Water Treatment Plant area during the Early Earth Works and erection of modules and steel structure.

The safety of our employees, contractors and the general public is paramount as we continue to prepare for construction of the Greenstone Mine.
