Haul Road construction south of Plant Site.

Planned activities for the week of December 12th include ongoing earthworks within the Tailings Management Facility, foundation work, steel erection and cladding for various buildings within the Plant Site area and drilling, blasting and hauling of rock for roads at the open pit.

What's coming next:

Greenstone Mine wishes to advise the public that open pit activities are underway. Greenstone Mine will be conducting scheduled blasts within the Open Pit. Blasting Notices are posted on the website homepage. ‘No Trespassing’ signs within the former Barton Bay Trail area due to work activities being undertaken for the construction of the Highway 11 Realignment have been installed for everyone’s safety as this work continues. Earthworks in the Kenogamisis Pit, located North of Highway 11 behind Between Bridges Inn, will continue with loading and hauling of pit run material to the future Plant Site area as needed.

At the Process Plant east end, steel erection continues and cladding has begun. At the west end, internal steel installation is ongoing as is the installation of the CIP tanks. Concrete, steel erection and cladding are ongoing at the Crusher and the High Pressure Grinding Rolls. Components for the ball mills continue to arrive. Work continues on the retaining wall (MSE Wall) by the Primary Crusher. Trenching activities for underground services (piping and electrical) will wrap up for the winter season. At the Power Plant, inside equipment installation continues. Interior work in the Truck Shop is ongoing with the installation of overhead doors, pouring of interior concrete slabs and installation of piping and electrical systems. Installation of bridges on top of the Leach tanks continues. Installation of the Detox tanks continues.

Formwork and concrete for conveyors is well advanced with preassembly and installation ongoing. Power distribution work continues in the Plant Site and Tailings Management Facility (TMF) areas.

At the TMF, work continues on the cut-off wall with the Deep Soil Mixing machines.

Mine mobile equipment components continue to arrive. Assembly of the first four mine haul trucks and shovel is complete. Assembly of the second shovel at the assembly pad area nears completion. The construction of haul roads is advancing well.

The public are reminded to continue to obey all posted signs across the project area for everyone’s health and safety. Now that the winter season is upon us, snowmobilers are warned to stay well outside of the project footprint for their own safety as many hazards may be covered by snow.

Construction in and around Greenstone Mine involves the use of heavy equipment such as haul trucks, zoom booms, cranes, drills, excavators, skidders, wood chippers, bulldozers, tri-axle haul trucks, articulated trucks and loaders. The extensive project work over the last year has significantly changed the landscape resulting in many new hazards. For health and safety reasons, do not enter any unauthorized or active work areas within the Project footprint unless authorized to do so.

The safety of our employees, contractors and the general public is paramount as we construct the Greenstone Mine.
